Eighteen cars is an unusually small starting point for a model line. Bentley Batur is limited precisely to 18 coupés, and on the manufacturer’s model page the series is described as sold out. Here, development centres on the choices of a small number of customers and a very high degree of personal customisation. [1]
Batur belongs under Mulliner, Bentley’s division for special commissions. The division works with both colours and materials, as well as with the most far-reaching projects, in which the car’s very form acquires its own identity. This tradition of individual body and design work is what the term coachbuilt refers to. [2][4]
At the same time, Bentley presents Batur as an indicator of the brand’s future design and materials. That gives the car two roles: a concrete commission for a few customers and a place where the brand can show ideas that extend beyond any single series. This is the manufacturer’s own positioning, not a guarantee of specific future models. [1]
The images show the special edition The Black Rose in Bentley’s official press photography from 2025. The specific colour and material expression in the images should therefore not be read as standard equipment on all 18 cars.
The low production figure is only part of the story. Batur is interesting as an example of luxury as influence over the finished object: which surfaces one touches, which colours meet, and how the whole is experienced. No public price or current opportunity to buy an example is documented here.
